In groups of two, we researched and acted as a historic figure as part of a panel where we discussed and debated Obama's State of the Union Address.
Each pair had to write an opening statement. The historic figure my partner and I decided we would portray was Barack Obama. Here is our opening statement:
Reflection
Practice and practicing my opening statement was the only thing on my mind the day before the panel discussion because I wanted to give a speech like Obama gives. When the time came it was amazing to see all the work people put into being there character and how interested the 5th graders were on how the discussion was going. It was very fun writing the speeches because you were writing them as if you were that character. Being Obama, the 44th president of the United States of America, my speech had to be very powerful and moving. I am very proud of how my partner and I worked together on researching and going through Obama's State of the Union speech. One thing that I learned from this project is when writing speeches to always have points that are powerful and grab the attention of the audience. When writing my speech I had to remember that I had to think of how Obama would of said something and try to write like Obama.
