The Science Fiction Project was all about writing a book that combined both humanities and biology. The goal that we had was to write stories that were fiction but had science related topics tied into them. The way most students started writing their stories was with a premise or what if statement. The premise (“what if” question) of my story was, “What if humans could go in and not die inside black holes”? We learned how to write and come up with the premise by watching and reading nonfiction pieces and coming up with the “what if” question we thought would best support the movie/book. Below is a picture of the notes we took.
After watching all the movies and reading the books we were assigned to come up with our own premise. Below is an example of the “what if” questions we came up with, we were told to come up with one and branch off and get more specific with each question we wrote.
After we learned and got accustomed to writing a premise we started the writing process. Our teacher handed us a lot of graphic organizers and worksheets that helped us come up with ideas for what we can write about. The worksheets helped us pick a setting, character names, researching science topics and much more.
I actually started with an idea of writing a basketball/NBA Science Fiction Story.
After we were finished with the worksheets it was know time to write.
Below is my Final Draft.
Reflection
When writing my Science Fiction story I struggled combining both fiction and nonfiction in my story. When I wrote my science fiction piece I wanted to write all true things and tell people about science but It was real different to write fake scenes that could not happen in real life. It took me a long time to figure out a good topic that I was interested in writing about. I picked a physics topic because it’s something I knew a lot about.
4 Weeks Later...
After looking at my piece I am pretty surprised how it came out. I don't see myself as a great writer but when I find something that I can add “myself/what I like” into the writing they seem to flow better. Because I am a huge physics and black hole geek, it was fun writing about a spaceship traveling into a black hole even though it could really never happen. Learning how science fiction stories are written has given me another perspective into how a story can be written.
