Relevance:
This week we exhibited our mural proposals that are going to be painted on one of “Las Palapas” stores wall in Paradise Hills. Our team of 51 students were broken up into 9 groups and they each made a design/proposal for the wall. I was in a group with two other classmates and our mural was a drawing of alphabet soup. There was also a spoon next to the bowl that had the word peace. The spoon looked as if someone had picked out the word PEACE from the alphabet soup and placed it on the spoon. The remaining letters in the bowl also spell out peace in other languages. Since my previous experiences with art as well as painting were close to none. It was amazing to learn so much about how to paint and how paintings work from this project. With Mr. Lugo’s help, as well as help from my classmates I was able to learn how to make a mural proposal. I also was able to contribute to our scaled mural proposal and made it something we were proud of.
Interest:
On Thursday we had our mural presentation to the community members of Paradise Hills. We had the murals on stands and 2 or 3 representatives of the team standing next to the pieces. We presented our ideas to the community and persuaded them to vote for our art piece. I believe that's where my teammate (Carlos) and I really excelled. We had our “sales pitch” down. We also explained to the community members why they should pick our mural to be displayed on the store wall. The days leading up to our exhibition I also had a fun time building the paint stands. Which made the murals look professional at our exhibition.
Additional Thoughts:
Overall I had a great time with the mural project. I can't wait for one of the proposals to get drawn on the huge wall. I loved seeing all of us working so hard to finish our art pieces and presenting at the library. One bright spot that really stayed with me from this project, was how much our peers would help other groups out who needed an extra helping hand.I know that my group in particular really benefited from the help others gave us. I also hope other people benefited from the help we contributed to their groups. It was something beautiful to see that will always stay with me. I also hope that I can carry this skill into other projects that I do in the future.
