Interest:
During class a day that really stood out to me was the day when we talked about signs in Humanities class. I was very interested in this topic because it talked about a couple topics that I had seen in my Sociology class which I really enjoyed. From the Sociology class I learned a lot of the topics that we were talking about in class and I could really contribute to the discussion. The topic about human norms and how humans make up what's right or wrong really interest me. I loved learning about how we have “bad” words even though it's us humans the ones who tittle the word bad, but in reality its just sounds coming out of our mouth. We can relate this to art because when analysing an art-piece people can have different views on the one painting and it's all in our opinion if we like the painting or not. Our team will need to take this information when painting and planning for the mural we will be painting. We want to make sure we take into consideration all the views of the people living in that community.
Analysis:
This week in both classes we started with the mural project and learning about street art. In humanities we learned about graffiti and all the ways people interpret it. I realized the importance painting what people in the community want painted and make sure to get opinions of the people living in that area for the mural. In art class we read a interesting research paper that talked about art and the importance of it in the world we live in. How art is all around us and it’s always influencing the world we live in. This week we really dove into art and art in the real word. We analysed how art influences our word and the importance it played on it.
Additional Thoughts:
When introduced to the mural project we were going to paint, at first I wasn't really interested in the project because I am not really interested in art and don't practice it often, but realizing how much research and studies we have to run to paint the mural really made me want to start the project. At first I thought we would only come up with a painting and transfer it onto the big wall, but then I realized how important the communities input is to the mural we will be painting. I am excited to start researching street art and ways to include what the communities ideas into our end product. One last thing I thought that we talked about this week was famous street artist named Banksy, who I had never heard of, and was amazed to find out how no one knows what he looks like.
