Conceptual Connections:
In class this week we dove into what to paint on the mural. It was important for us to speak with residents of Paradise Hills where the mural would be painted to make sure we would take into consideration what they would want to see on the mural. Since our art teacher Mr. Enrique grew up and lives in Paradise hills our team got together at his parent’s house to interview family and friends. We decided to asked questions about life in paradise hills and what they would like to see in paradise hills. A lot of the members stated that they would like to see different cultures being represented and coming together; Making sure that every culture keeps their identity but is still intertwined with the community. The topic of identity and culture came up in my sociology college class I took talked about people's identity and how it joins with the community in a whole. I want to make sure that our mural takes into consideration everyone's voice and represents everyone in Paradise Hills.
Analysis:
A lot of the activities in class are related to the mural, in getting us to think about ideas we could put on the mural. I like the “yes.....and” activity we did in class because it makes us use our imagination and build off of each other’s ideas. In that activity each group came up with reality good ideas we could incorporate into our mural and many of them tend to have pieces of information that the interviewers said. In art class all of us students are just drawing and coming up with a lot of mural ideas or components we would like to incorporate in the mural. Next week we plan on drafting the full mural proposals and bringing all our ideas together on the mural painting.
Additional Thoughts:
As the weeks go by I can't wait to start painting the mural. Once we have a final prototype complete it will be fun to go present at the Paradise Hills library and see if the idea we have gets passed we will be able to start painting. It will be long process in painting the mural but it will pay off in the end. I am especially excited for the documentation side of the project because I want to make and capture some cool images and videos that we can make a video about the process it took. I was thinking that I might be able to add aerial footage to the documentary and take the video to a whole new level. It will be amazing to show the video to the people of paradise hills and at our school exhibition.
