The goal of project #sourcecode was to write a code from scratch that would analyze the DNA in order to determine ancestry and disease susceptibility. In groups of fourth we picked a random persons sequence genome to analyze. We were told to find the persons ancestry and where they come from in the world and what diseases they are susceptible too.
The role I played:
Each group member had a task they had to carry out during the project. In my group I was the Bioinformaticist, the person in charge of writing the algorithm that comes up with the ancestry of the person we chose. Before this project I had work a little with coding but this project helped me learn python, a coding language that will help me out a lot in my future.
Challenges that I faced and conquered in this project:
Writing the code for our group was a challenge that was really challenging to me. It was confusing to me on what the program was suppose to do. I asked my classmates and they helped me out with the code and I understood it after. After that I started helping my other classmates that needed help.
Lessons I learned that will stick with me after high school:
Some lessons that I learned were hard work and perseverance. I had to work a long time to understand the instructions for the code we had to write. I persevered and got help to finish up the algorithm. I pushed myself and worked hard on finishing up the code.
